Good Morning America Got It Wrong, Says ExtraOrdinary Assistance, A Massachusetts Virtual Assistant
The June 23rd Good Morning America (GMA) segment, "Hot Trend: Virtual Assistants Outsource Your Headaches" missed the real story, says Donna Caissie, Owner/ Operator of ExtraOrdinary Assistance, and a Massachusetts Virtual Assistant (VA) since 2002.

WORCESTER, MA, July 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "Although AskSunday.com, RedButler.com and ihabilis.com call themselves virtual assistants, in reality they're virtual concierges, virtual gofers, if you will, said Donna." Since the 1990s, it has been widely accepted that VAs are administrative assistants who are business owners, and their business is to provide administrative expertise and support to other businesses.

"A real VA is highly trained, well-skilled and very experienced in all areas of administrative assistance, says Donna." Many VAs have come up through the secretarial ranks of corporate America and have backgrounds as administrative assistants, executive secretaries and office managers. Their training and experience includes software proficiency, e-commerce and that all important ability to get things done. "One thing that separates VAs from virtual concierges is that the VA goes the extra mile. Take, for example, Becky Worley's request for AskSunday to help her find lodging for a July 4 family reunion. A virtual assistant would not have submitted any lodging information that didn't have availability on the dates requested. A virtual assistant would have checked that without being told to do so.

Most Western VAs have insurance to cover them in cases of unintended breaches of security, theft and errors and omissions. "Try getting your money back from an overseas company such as AskSunday, said Donna, if one of their employees misuses your credit card or borrows your identity." The laws that govern businesses in India or China are not the same as the laws that govern businesses in the U.S.A.

Busy entrepreneurs world-wide have discovered that collaborating with a real VA saves them time and money and allows them to focus their energies on the areas of their business that only they can handle, such as sales, business planning, marketing, etc. As solo entrepreneurs quickly discover, paying someone to do invoicing, shipping, purchasing, printing, word processing, copying, presentations, etc. who charges half of what you charge your clients is worth every dollar.
