Woodshed Gallery Presents Celebrated Artist Sarah Alexander's New Paintings In A Solo Exhibition
The Woodshed Gallery in Franklin, MA (Metro West Boston) is hosting a public reception for accomplished Hopedale, MA artist Sarah Alexander of Hopedale, MA on Saturday, March 12, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The exhibition continues thu April 9, 2011.

FRANKLIN, MA, March 06, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Woodshed Gallery is presenting the work of outstanding Hopedale Massachusetts artist Sarah Alexander in a solo exhibition of her new paintings. The exhibition starts Tuesday March 8th and continues through Saturday April 9th, 2011.

A public reception for Ms. Alexander will be held on Saturday, March 12, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

The exhibition features a new series of watercolor and mixed-media paintings based on flowers. The paintings are larger-than-life close-ups rendered in a loose, modern and lyrical style. The colors are both muted and exaggerated, and the addition of three-dimensional materials create a tactile appeal.

Sarah Alexander explains, "I have a language when I paint and the subject I choose is just a vessel for that language. I see a dandelion as more than just a weed. When the seeds swirl away, it becomes a metaphor for events I observe in life... Recently I have been drawn to subjects that depict motion: reeds blowing in the breeze, seeds spiraling slowly (or quickly), leaves swirling like busy thoughts."

Sarah is a primarily self taught artist, though she has had art instruction since she was ten years old. She spent weekends taking classes at The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She says, "My first serious experiments with watercolors were with Angelina Wood at the Woodshed Gallery. I took classes with her for many years. I am honored to have the opportunity to exhibit now at the gallery Angelina started, and where I used to come as a student."

Sarah Alexander was previously a resident artist at the Holliston Mill. She now has a home studio in Hopedale Massachusetts where she paints full time and offers private and semi-private lessons. She also teaches watercolors at the Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick.

She is a member of The Franklin Art Association, Needham Art Association, and The
Wellesley Society of Artists, and has received numerous awards. Among her prize-winning exhibitions are juried shows at the Hopedale Cultural Council, Wellesley Society of Artists, Franklin Art Association, Needham Art Association, Danforth Museum, Marblehead Art Association, Wellesley Library, and many others.

This exhibition is part of a Woodshed Gallery program designed to let Metro-West residents view world-class art by their neighbors. The professional gallery setting has been compared to the best exhibition spaces in Boston.
